Clinical Study of Gastroduodenal Ulcer Perforation

Abstract
Gastroduodenal ulcer perforation was one of the most frequently encounter acute abdominal condition in this country. Since 1892, when von Hensner first emploid simple closure- for perforated peptic ulcer, the vast advance was achieved in this area, and the mortality was markedly decreased.
This study is a review of 94 cases of gastroduodenal ulcer perforation admitted and operated at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital from July 1972, to June 1976. Some of the results are as follows:
1. In gastroduodenalulcer, the ratio of stomach and duodenum was 1: 1.1. 2. The sex distribution, male to female, was about 7.5: 1.
3. The incidence of gastroduodenal, ulcer perforation was most prevalent in fourth decade, but in female, sixth decade was the commonest.
4. Overall preceding history to suggest ulcer disease was present in 71. 3% and absent in 28.70. 37.2% of those who had previous history, had it for over 3 years. 5. The subdiaphragmatic free air was appeared in 73.4%.
6. The relation between amount of intraabdominal fluid and degree of hemoconcentration paralleled rather closely, but showed little bearings on the morbidity and mortality. 7. The morbidity and mortality was 34.0% and 4.3%.
